Book reviews by silent killer

Its a ten, but its still only a light novel

Posted : 1 month, 2 weeks ago on 21 August 2008 07:09 (A review of Boogiepop the light novel Vol 0: Boogiepop at Dawn (Boogiepop))

The third in a series of light novels translated from its original Japanese language; Boogiepop at dawn doesn't disappoint it's fans. The book brings us the origins of some of the series main characters, shedding some light on why thy are the way they are. It also adds some depth to them. In particular Kirima Nagi. Some of what was missing from the previous books was just what was motivating these characters to risk their lives fighting these monsters. Who would do such a thing and why? So yes, finally some light is shed. But not too much and only ends with more questions.

Saying that, if you decided you wanted to get into the series now, You'd be confused beyond belief. Maybe they add a list of chronoogical events as they happened. As it happens, the ending sets up the story for the fifth book. Seeing as how this is the third book, I wonder what happens in the fourth?

not about Alita. Not a problem.

Posted : 6 months, 2 weeks ago on 30 March 2008 12:59 (A review of Battle Angel Alita: Last Order, Vol.9 (Angel's Duty))

So I've heard some people don't like this little side-story. Because Alita(That's Gally to the rest of the world) is completely absent from it. Instead this volume centers on Vilma, otherwise known as Caerula in the current timeline of the series. We find her in the battle of her life, defending the human race of all things. If you want outlandish fight scenes exquisitely drawn and choreographed then this is one to buy. This volume contains some of the best fight scenes in all of the Alita BAA series'. We also learn what exactly is the Last Order, and its a good way to get away from the whole tournament style manga that pervades the entire shounen category.

not for the kids

Posted : 6 months, 3 weeks ago on 19 March 2008 06:22 (A review of Sundome Vol. 1 (Sundome))

....as if the cover would lead you to believe otherwise. Yes, she's touching herself, and the cover doesn't let you down. In that respect. I'd say its borderline hentai. Except there's no blatant sex scenes. Actually there's no intercourse scenes at all. At first, all this book seems to focus on is sex, but towards the end there's a small bit of developement in the characters that will hopefully be carried on in too the next volumes.

Hikkatsu Vol 1

Posted : 7 months ago on 14 March 2008 01:02 (A review of Hikkatsu! Volume 1 (Hikkatsu!))

Sometime in the future a natural disaster occurs that affects all electronic devices in the world. Wait. This isn't the plot of the book. What it is about is a boy who believes that hitting things is the ultimate way to make them better. Even sick people. Shota plans to heal the world with his karate. This is where the majority of the books humor comes from as Shota most often goes overboard and usually ends up destroying whatever he tries to "fix".

too many inconsistencies

Posted : 1 year, 2 months ago on 25 July 2007 06:20 (A review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7))

There are too many inconsistencies. I don't just mean between all the prevoius books and this one. I also mean within the book itself. Hermione says she modified her parents memories in one chapter and then the next she's squeemish about doing to some death eaters because she's never done it before. Umm... yes, she has. She just explained she did last chapter. That and the polyjuice potion lasting longer than an hour as previously mentioned in the second book. Other than that, the book was good. Although the epilogue nearly blew it.

WTF happened!?

Posted : 1 year, 10 months ago on 2 December 2006 10:50 (A review of Hot Gimmick, Vol. 12)

Well, I was reading until now hoping that it would get better. Volume 11 was good, but then it ends like this and blows it all. Volume 12's only saving grace is the bonus side story with Akane and Subaru, and the extra one-shot story 10 Days.

where's the rest of this series ADV

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 8 November 2006 05:04 (A review of Desert Coral, Volume 3)

You left it all hanging at a very big cliffhanger. Finish it or pass it along to someone else already.
